08/08/2006 - Embleton to sign for Sunderland

Aran Embleton, one of the stars of up and coming Whitley Bay FC Women is poised to sign for nearby Premier League team Sunderland.

Aran, who has previously played for Sunderland and Doncaster Belles, regularly appeared in England squads before taking a break from the game. She returned to the sport in 2005 playing for newly formed Whitley Bay and scored 46 goals in helping the Bay to win the Durham and Northumberland County League at their first attempt with a 100% winning record.

Whitley have now received official notification from Sunderland that they wish to approach the player.

Manager Colin Phillips has commented - "Within hours of us playing Sunderland in a friendly one of our best players informs me that she wants to sign for them. Losing players to teams from higher leagues is a problem Whitley Bay must now face and is indicative of the progress we have made in a short time"
