17/05/2010 - New Signings and pre-season

Whitley Bay have moved quickly to strengthen our squad ahead of the new season, snapping up 2 midfielders from fellow Northern League side Consett. Gary Ormston and David Pounder have joined and manager Ian Chandler couldn't be happier "I'm delighted to have captured both Gary & David, the 2 of them have been the foundation of Consett’s team for the past few years." "I felt we’ve always had trouble handling both the lads whenever we played them." "Gary can played centre midfield or wide right, while David can play left back, left wing, or up front so there’s quite a few options to add to the squad." Whitley have also moved to tie up some of the existing squad with Leon Ryan and Paul Robinson recently signing 2 year contracts. "Recently Leon & Robbo both signed 2 year contracts, while Callum & Craig have both agreed 2 year deals, I’m also looking to add a couple more players to the contract list, but totally delighted with what we have done so far." On the pitch Whitley have announced 2 friendlies so far, both at Hillheads. We will play FA Vase opponents from the 2009 final, Glossop North End on the 17th July (3pm) and Darlington on the 26th July (7pm). Whitley will also travel to Ralph Gardner Park to play North Shields on Friday 23rd July and to Gretna for a game on Saturday 31st July (2pm Kick Off).
