06/07/2010 - Leon Ryan joins Spennymoor Town

Joint Statement from Paul McIlduff chairman and Ian Chandler team manager. Today we can officially announce the transfer of Leon Ryan to Spennymoor Town. There’s been quite a bit of speculation surrounding the transfer, so we’d like to explain the situation in a move to remove any malicious rumours. In actual fact the transfer was fairly straight forward, Leon requested a move, for his own reasons, there was (is) no conflict between him and the club (chairman or manager) and we (the board and manager) had to respect his request. After speaking to the manager (Ian Chandler), Ian explained there is no point holding on to a player who does not want to be at the club, and for that reason and that reason only the transfer request was agreed. We’d like to thank Leon for his efforts over the last 2 seasons; he’s been a fantastic representative for Whitley Bay, not only on the pitch, but off the pitch where’s he’s conducted himself with great style. On behalf of the board and management team we would like to wish Leon well for the future and hope he can come visit us at Wembley again in May 2011.
