Match Report By Peter Fox
While not at their free flowing best Bay edged into the last 16 of the FA Vase thanks to a terrific Lee Kerr strike midway through the second half.
The opening period of the game was very cagy and the first real attempt on goal didnít come until the tenth minute when Chris Mooreís shot was deflected over his own bar by Buckbyís Darron Harmon.
Bay seemed to be edging possession at this point and Buckby keeper Farhad Avendiey fumbled Chris Grahamís cross but recovered to take the ball at the second attempt.
Ben Foster was the Buckby dangerman and he got in a shot which Burke collected at the second attempt but at this stage both teams seemed to be sussing each other out.
Lee Kerr shot wide after a smart turn from around 20 yards and then Moore chipped just over the bar after Avendiey blocked his initial effort.
Midway through the first half Bay came close to breaking the deadlock, when Paul Robinson, who was having one of his quieter games saw his deflected 20 yard shot clip the bar, and Buckby started to get more possession at this point with Burke having to punch clear under pressure and then saving well from Carl Holmes.
Just before the half hour Chris Moore poked a shot wide and then at the other end a corner from Fazel Koriya caused panic in the Bay box before the ball was eventually grabbed by Burke.
Chow did well to get in a good position and cut the ball back for Robinson who blazed over from a decent position and then right on half time Chow was denied first by Avendiey and then by Danny Duggan clearing off the line.
At the start of the second half Harmon cleared a dangerous Robinson cross and then Lee Picton who was in majestic form at the back for Bay produced a great tackle to stop Foster in his tracks.
It certainly wasnít all one way traffic and Koriya got in a cross which David Coulson did well to cut out with Buckby forwards closing in.
Damon Robson shot straight at Avendiey after Robinson had set him up before Kerr and Moore combined to create a chance for Chow which he headed just wide.
Holmes came close when he connected with a Harmon free kick but his header flashed wide before Chow and Robinson combined for sub Dean Douglas to shoot but he was off target from a decent position.
Harmon got in another good cross but Fostersí header was easily taken by Burke before Kerr shot over after good set up play by Douglas.
It looked like it was going to take something special to break the deadlock and it duly arrived in the 71st minute. The ball was cleared by the Bay defence and Kerr ran on and managed to win a tackle on the Bay right just inside the Buckby half. He raced on, cut to the left and with three defenders and the goalkeeper trying to block him managed to wrongfoot them all and flick the ball to his right past the keeper into the net.
Buckby stepped up a gear after this but couldnít create much against a resolute home defence and Bay could have added to their lead with Moore shooting wide then Avendiey producing a great save from Douglas in stoppage time.
Bay: Burke, Taylor, Minto (Douglas), Graham, Coulson, Picton, Moore, Robson (Woodhouse), Chow (Livermore), Kerr, Robinson.
