Match Report By Peter Fox

Bay’s defeat handed Durham the league title but what will be concerning both management and fans alike is that Bay’s goals have dried up. They squandered numerous chances against West Allotment on Friday and although overall the performance was a lot more solid tonight, the same problem was there, and this time they missed a penalty too.

With games coming thick and fast another shuffle of the pack took place. Rob Mclean was in goal with Terry Burke unavailable and Tom Kindley injured playing for the reserves on Saturday.

The game had an open start and Whitley soon created a chance with Kerr electing to shoot with Chow probably better placed.

The Lawyers took the lead after 16 minutes when Alex Benjamin continued his rich vein of form heading home a cross giving Mclean no chance.

Seven minutes later Whitley had a great chance to equalise when Chris Moore was fouled by Phil McGuire in the box. Kerr stepped up to take the penalty but scuffed it and Jack Norton was able to save easily.

Whitley were playing some decent stuff and Kerr shot straight at Norton at the end of a good move and then when a Kerr cross was deflected for a corner, from Robinson’s dead ball kick Chow headed against the bar.

Moore was supplying some good crosses and one in particular was flicked just wide by Kerr, while at the other end Benjamin broke through again but fired wide.

Nine minutes into the second half you began to get the feeling that this was going to be one of those nights. After Tow Law had managed to scramble the ball away Brian Rowe set up Paul Robinson for a cross which Brian Smith headed just wide.

Shortly afterwards a Robinson shot was scrambled away by Norton and then when Paul Chow did get the ball in the net he was given offside.

Smith came close again heading just wide from a free kick, before the sucker punch was nearly applied with McLean doing well to block from Benjamin.

With ten minutes to go Kerr was played through and he tried to lob Norton but got his angles all wrong and the ball went well over the bar along with Bay’s chances of getting anything from this match.

Bay: McLean, Rowe, Minto (Picton), Smith, Coulson, Graham (Dugdale), Moore, Robson, Kerr, Chow, Robinson (Bell)
