Northern League clubs still dominating FA Vase

Feb 5 2012 by Steve Brown, Sunday Sun

MIKE AMOS has a good figure. It might even be record-breaking.

The FA Vase resumes next weekend, weather permitting, with the STL Northern League which he chairs contributing FIVE clubs in the last 16.

A best for the second oldest league worldwide, it may also be the best for any.

It is this year, for sure; the Midland Alliance boasts three teams in the fifth round, the United Counties two, and the Western, Wessex, Hellenic, Essex, Kent and Northern Counties East leagues send forth one apiece.

Nor is it a flash in the pan, as four Northern League outfits have made up the last 16 for the past two years, with three in the quarter-finals in 2010 and two last season.

Whitley Bay, of course, have taken it all somewhat further again.

On Saturday, they host West Auckland Town, top against second, and arguably the sternest challenge yet to the Seahorses’ recent monopolisation of matters

Re : What's Up with Tommy's Bovril ???? - 05/02/2012 - Big Billy Bow the Bay Boy !!

Big Betty Bow was out for a few beers last night with her new flowered wellies , up at Hillheads and called for a beer at the Seahorse - seems she overheard a conversation at the Bar implying the Bovril problem has been resolved and new supplies are expected for the Vase West Auckland bash next week.

Can anyone confirm that the Big Betty Bow's Bay Bovril dilemma is now over ???

Prestonian!

Out of all the arguments about should Bay accept promotion or not, (in my opinion yes), Yours is by far the most sensible solution. Promote the whole league up a level! Solves a whole load of problems!!!!

Pleased the game was off.

Next weeks game will be better for having not had the opportunity to check one another out and

Looking forward to a midweek trip to WA late in the season when the championship is at stake.

The date for a replay, if required, is the following Saturday. I assume that a postponement next Saturday would also mean the game being played the following Saturday rather than in midweek.
